What are your beliefs?

Like most counselors, I recognize that personal problems can come about because of physiology, social-environmental influences and psychological pressures. I also believe that many problems can be spiritual in nature. I believe individuals are created in God’s image and can only feel complete and fulfilled through relationship with him. Christianity is not a religion, and I do not force “religion” on my clients. I purpose to reflect the character of Jesus Christ and love my clients as he does.

Do I have to talk about “Christian” stuff during therapy?

No. You are in control of what you talk about in your sessions. I am dedicated to meeting you right where you are. My clients appreciate being in charge of the degree to which their spirituality is a part of our work together.

Do I have to be a Christian or attend a certain church or denomination to receive help?

No and no. As stated above, I will meet you where you are. We will work on what you identify as the counseling goal.

I do not live in Tennessee.  Can you still work with me?

As a nationally licensed Clinical Christian Therapist and Clinical Pastoral Counselor, I am able to work with you no matter where you live.

What is temperament?

Temperament is the inborn part of us that determines how we react to people, places and things. In short, it is how people interact with their environments and the world around them. Temperament pinpoints our perception of ourselves and the people who love us. It is also the determining factor in how well we handle the stresses and pressures of life. Temperament can best be defined as spiritual genetics. Three are involved in the conception of a child; the mother, the father and the Creator.

How do you use temperament in therapy?

We will use the Arno Profile System (18-item questionnaire) to generate your temperament profile report and then begin the exploration into who you are. This exploration is valuable because it will help you to discover the strengths you may develop as well as the weaknesses you may resist. It will also reveal unmet needs that can cause stress and conflict in your life and your relationships with others. It is difficult to consider possible weaknesses in our lives, but if we are open to change, understanding our weaknesses can help us resolve conflicts and improve our relationships.
